Main duties of the job
The PEEER Youth service is a growing team of youth workers with a focus on supporting young people living with a Long-term Heath Condition. We currently have youth workers supporting a variety of specialist areas including Epilepsy, Diabetes and Renal.
As a trust serving the whole of the Wessex region we work closely with partnering Trusts and Hospitals such as Winchester and Basingstoke. The role we are recruiting to is based within Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals supporting their Diabetes teams, however we may have further opportunities here at Southampton and further afield.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Being a youth worker within a health-care setting can be a unique opportunity to evolve services for young people and weave the things important to them into their health care experience. We are looking for experienced youth workers who are confident in promoting the voice of young people, and ensuring the fundamentals of youth work remain central to their work.
Health-based youth work is focused on ensuring the young person is central in their care pathways, ensuring that the other parts of a young persons life are considered and they are supported to work towards their priorities at their pace.
Clinical advocacy forms a large part of the role and attending clinical appointments with young people will be required.
In addition, the role will involve visiting young people in the community and supporting engagement in meaningful activities, exploring barriers within areas of their life that are important to them reaching their full potential and providing informal education on topics that they recognise are important.
A working day is varied, some youth work is delivered online and in the evening and weekends.
A driving license and access to a car is essential.

- Professional Youth work Qualification/Youth Work related Degree or equivalent and relevant experience within Youth work
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Significant experience working with young people
- Good understanding of health issues relating to young people
- Good understanding of social needs of young people
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to child protection and cultural and diversity awareness
- Knowledge of issues relating to consent and confidentiality
