This may involve spending time listening to the service users, visiting the local community socially and escorting to hospital appointments. It will also involve encouraging and developing skills and coping strategies in activities of daily living and the maintenance and development of new skills in this area. Working as part of the team, support workers play an integral part of a service users’ recovery. The role of support worker is very rewarding, especially when they have experienced and shared the full journey of the service user through admission to discharge.
