Job Overview

The Cardiology Department at Wexham Park Hospital consists of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) which is a 14 bedded unit that has close links with our Cardiac Step-down Unit and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL).

Cardiology at Wexham Park Hospital now offers a 24 hour primary PCI service for all STEMI patients. We care for patients post coronary intervention, heart failure, arrhythmias and the capacity to cardiac monitor.

Main duties of the job

Cardiology services at Wexham Park Hospital are expanding making this post an exciting and dynamic opportunity.

As a sister/charge nurse, you should have strong interpersonal skills and a keen interest in caring for cardiac patients. You will work with the ward manager ensuring the team delivers high standards of patient care. You will also work with the practice development sister in the training and development of staff and be involved in raising the profile of the speciality.

You will need to show evidence of caring for cardiac patients together with appropriate knowledge and skills acquired in an acute cardiac environment, evidence of recent professional development and use of evidence based practice, these are all essential for the post.

  • Mentorship Course

  • Significant experience at Band 5 in Coronary care, and taking charge of a Unit
  • Substantial experience of teaching and supervising junior staff

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good timekeeping and communication skills
  • Self motivated with the ability to motivate others
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues

  • Understanding the flexibility in shifts maybe required at times
