About Us
The Service sits within a Planning Department under a Head of Service that reports directly to the Director of Place. The Planning Policy team are responsible for the preparation of the statutory development plan and provide advice and information to developers and members of the public on a range of national and local planning policies. Main outcomes are: preparation and monitoring of the Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Plan (LDP); preparation of Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) to support the LDP; regional collaboration on land-use planning in South East Wales (SEWSPG); all Wales collaboration on planning matters via Planning Officers Society for Wales (POSW) and preparation and review of Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plans. - To undertake and assist with all tasks related to the work of the Planning Policy team.
- To progress to Grade 8: Eligible for Chartered Membership of the RTPI (either through relevant Post Graduate Planning Qualification or via experience), or working towards membership
You will need:
- Experience of working within planning with at least 1 years practicing experience.
- Detailed knowledge of the Development Plan system in Wales and relevant national, regional and local planning policies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work to agreed deadlines and under pressure.
- Good organisational skills. Ability to forge and work in partnership.
- Ability to deal directly with Councillors, members of the public as well as public/private organisations.
- A degree level qualification in Planning (recognised by the RTPI) which will lead to membership of the RTPI.
- Enthusiastic, well-motivated and able to work well in a team and on own initiative. Commitment to high quality outcomes from the planning policy process.
- Committed to continuing professional development.
- Commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Computer literate (office software and Geographical Information Systems) and be able to use a PC for letters and reports. Additional information
