Main duties of the job

Are you driven to improve the experience of our patients through reducing Health Inequalities for our community? We are looking for a passionate and driven Health Inequalities Officer sitting within the Experience of Care team and driving forward some key initiatives including Veteran care at UHS, care delivery of our Transgender community, training, and education in the support of our Gypsy Roma Traveller community and much more.

  • Has substantial experience of working with disadvantaged groups in a variety of settings
  • Has knowledge and understanding of challenges facing disadvantaged groups within a health context
  • Has knowledge and understanding of health inequalities and the socio-economic factors that drive these
  • Has the ability to work flexibly to support the varying demands of the service

Qualifications / Training Required

Essential criteria

  • Degree in relevant area or significant equivalent experience
  • Level 3 Safeguarding qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of professional development

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria

  • Substantial experience of working with Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge and experience of current legislation and guidance around gypsy, Roma, and traveller communities in health and social care
  • Knowledge and understanding of challenges facing gypsy, Roma, and traveller communities, ideally within a health context
  • Experience of signposting and referring to community support services
  • Experience of providing advice and support to excluded communities

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of complaints management or conflict resolution or mediation
  • Knowledge and understanding of health inequalities and the socio-economic factors that drive these
  • Experience of working with Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities in a health setting

Aptitudes And Skills Required

Essential criteria

  • Ability to communicate and work with people from all backgrounds
  • Ability and skills in engaging people in health conversations
  • Mediation skills to help resolve concerns and complaints
  • Effective at managing stressful or emotional situations where calmness and reasoning are required
  • Able to support people in clinical environments, advocating for their needs

Desirable criteria

  • Commitment to, and understanding of, user and carer involvement
  • Ability to develop networks and forums for engagement
