Job Overview
This is a full time post with main commitment in gynae oncology and some obstetric component. It includes contribution to the non-resident on call rota for both obstetrics and gynaecology. This post is to support the gynaecology oncology service. The post will be of interest to both, a newly qualified consultant as well as an established consultant with special interest in gynae oncology and/or benign gynaecology/minimal access surgery. The post will be based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a fully integrated range of primary, community, mental health, acute and elective hospital services across North Wales. North Wales boasts some of the UKs most varied and spectacular coastline, offering unique opportunities to engage with outdoor activities in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The population density is located along the northern coastal border with the main A55 road offering excellent links to the North West of England, and Ireland via seaport. This, in conjunction with the availability of attractive housing and schooling options should be appreciated when considering a post in this area. Wrexham Maelor Hospital is a commutable distance from Chester, Liverpool and Manchester and parking is free within our hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive new post with gynaeoncology colposcopy and labour ward sessions. It has Gynaecology outpatient clinics, day case and inpatient theatre sessions. The proposed timetable for the post is attached and is to be confirmed after appointment in discussion with the clinical director.
The job plan will have full time 10 session contract with 7 (DCC) direct clinical care sessions and 3 sessions for SPA (supporting professional activities). The post holder is expected to show a commitment to risk management and clinical governance and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. A qualification in medical education would also be desirable.
The on-call frequency is 1:7 weekday nights and 1:10 weekend on call as non-resident consultant. All OOH (Out of Hours) work will be at Band A of intensity. The appointee will take full responsibility for clinical care of patients during their duties. Additional support and mentoring will also be available as appropriate based on the appointee’s experience.
The consultant is expected to be physically on site while providing labour ward cover during working hours.

- Full GMC registration
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
- CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- ATSM Gynaeoncolgy
- ATSM Advance Labour Ward Practice/Or Equivalent
- ATSM Colposcopy or equivalent
Clinical experience & effectiveness
- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
- Good working knowledge and experience of up-to-date obstetrics & gynaecology
- Qualification in Risk management
- Additional relevant degree(s)
Management & Administrative experience
- Appropriate levels of skills and abilities expected from a properly trained consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology
- Evidence of management and administration
- Appropriate IT skills
- Evidence of effective service development
Teaching & Training experience
- Experience of supervising junior staff
- Formal qualification in Medical Education
