Vauxhall Heritage Community Curator

Luton Borough Council

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Luton
Contract type: Contractor
About The Job

Salary: £37,938 - £40,476 a year pro rata

Hours per week: 37

Contract type: Fixed Term (12 months)

This position is available as a secondment opportunity for 12 months. If you are a permanent LBC employee, you must have written approval (an email will suffice) from your manager prior to applying and a copy will need to be submitted with your application. Please note: we will not be able to proceed with your application form without your manager’s permission.

You’ll be working on oral history projects, curating exhibitions, and delivering training sessions for young people, volunteers, and professionals. Collaboration is key, and you’ll build strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, and stakeholders to create meaningful programmes.

Project management will be an important part of your work, ensuring everything runs smoothly while managing budgets, timelines, and teams. You’ll also work with digital archives and museum collections, helping to preserve and present history in engaging ways. Experience with the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s best practices will be an advantage.

Your role will involve working with a wide range of people, including adults and children in care, as well as individuals with communication difficulties. Whether developing engagement activities or managing historical archives, your work will help to connect communities with their heritage.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About You

You are an excellent communicator who can engage with people at all levels, from teachers and volunteers to young people and the elderly. You have strong organisational and time management skills, allowing you to oversee multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budgets.

Your experience in training, community engagement, and curating exhibitions will be invaluable. You’re confident in developing workshops and delivering sessions that inspire and educate. Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, will help you manage records and documentation effectively.

An understanding of equality issues and how they impact the heritage sector is essential. You have a broad knowledge of heritage and its importance to diverse communities, and if you’re familiar with Luton’s heritage and the National Lottery Heritage Fund evaluation framework, even better.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English

However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
