Milestone is currently looking to recruit Utilities Survey Technician to work on our Suffolk Highways contract in Suffolk. As the Utilities Survey Technician you will be part of our Construction Team who are responsible for the delivery of all planned works.

Suffolk Highways is a new contract secured by Milestone in 2023 for up to 20 years. Under the contract we are responsible for delivering a wide range of highway maintenance and improvement activities to Suffolk County Council.

You will enable us to meet our key contract aim of ensuring high-quality highway services are delivered for the benefit of residents, businesses, and highway users in Suffolk.

As the Utilities Survey Technician your duties & responsibilities will be

As a Milestone Utility Survey Technician, you’ll be contributing to the safe and successful delivery of works across Suffolk Highways. Supporting the Construction and Operational teams and supply chain in controlling the risks that underground and overhead apparatus present. This key role is instrumental in maintaining a good safety record for Suffolk Highways. The main duties of this role are to liaise with Utility providers and assist with the control of health and safety standards on construction projects, minimising the impact to our safely run operations.

  • Undertake utility assessments for underground and overhead apparatus.
  • Advise on safety precautions for safe excavation practices.
  • Produce sketches of service locations for future reference.
  • Issuing permits to dig and reporting accurate details in site permit registers.
  • Marking utility locations on site and refreshing existing locations where needed.
  • Meeting appropriate stakeholder representatives to agree details of GS6 reports.
  • Undertake appropriate training to further knowledge on underground and overground utility marking to support business activities.
  • Contribute to Health and Safety investigations including reporting on findings immediately post incident or near miss occurrence.
