Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen and Essex Partnership University NHS Trust (EPUT) are seeking to recruit to a new Specialist School Nurse Assistant to join an existing team of highly motivated and experienced Specialist School Nurses and support staff working in specialist school settings across Southend and South East Essex.
As a specialist school nurse assistant you will be a highly motivated individual with a nursery nurse qualification or equivalent NVQ level 3 in child care. The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing safe, effective and high quality services to school aged children and families, using research based evidence to ensure all care is child centred and family focused. The post holder will have a responsibility for assessment and implementation of continence strategies for a specific caseload of children and young people, this will include some home visiting. Knowledge around continence issues for children with complex needs is desirable.
Under the guidance of the specialist school nurse, there will be an expectation to participate in annual health assessments, immunisation, and dietician and ophthalmology clinics for children and young people who attend specialist schools. Contribution of health information to EHCP for individual children will also be required as guided by the team lead or specialist school nurse.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist School Nurse Assistant you will be expected to work as a skilled member of the Specialist School Nursing Team across Children’s Services in South East Essex (Southend, Rochford, Rayleigh, Castle Point). Under the guidance of Specialist School Nurses/Team Lead you will be responsible for supporting school age children (3-19 years) with additional and complex needs and their parents/carers, focusing on providing specialist continence support, management plans and advice to promote independence.
