Job Overview

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Service are excited to be looking for a Specialist Grade Doctor to join our team based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The post is a new addition to the team of consultants currently working in the East area of the Health Board. The post has arisen from plans to strengthen our existing team and services.

Wrexham is superbly located in North East Wales, on the border with Cheshire and Shropshire. Excellent lines of communication allow easy access to Chester, Liverpool and Manchester, but also provide a gateway to the North Wales coastline and Snowdonia National Park.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in outpatient clinics and contribute to inpatient General Medicine at Consultant equivalent level. The weekly timetable is likely to include clinics in both diabetes and endocrinology, potentially with subspecialist clinic(s).A commitment to out of hours work eg. acute medical on call is not required but may be accommodated depending on the wishes of the successful candidate.

Educational meetings occur (medical grand round), departmental teaching, diabetes team and Clinical Governance meetings and general grand round. Mentoring will be available.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Broad experience of General Medicine Diabetes and Endocrinology - – at least 12 years postgraduate medical experience, at least 6 years of which in diabetes/endocrinology
  • Meets the criteria set out in the generic capabilities framework for the Specialist Grade developed by AoMRC, BMA & NHS Employers

Desirable criteria

  • Previous UK NHS experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Higher degree eg. MD, MSc, PhD

Clinical Governance

Essential Criteria

  • An understanding of Clinical Governance

Generic Skills

Essential criteria

  • Good clinical documentation Effective oral and written communication skills Willingness to involve patients in their management. Ability to work within team structure Basic IT skills Commitment to ongoing learning, CPD
