Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the dedicated nursing team which is part of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Services.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and dynamic individual to take on the role of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to provide leadership, management and support to the ward team and is responsible for the provision of patient care, ensuring that it is evidence based and of a high standard and to maintain 24-hour responsibility for the clinical area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that patients receive the necessary care and treatment to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. This will be achieved through the application of specialist knowledge, skills and practice.

This role requires close working relationships with a wide range of the multi-disciplinary/speciality teams, the Consultants, Heads of Nursing, Matrons, Ward Managers and the Clinical Site Management team. In order to succeed in this role you will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will need to have the ability to deal with challenging situations in a fast paced environment in a professional and calm manner. You will also undertake the role of Senior Duty Nurse as per rota.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse
  • Preparation for Mentorship course (or ability to complete relevant post registration specialist course or significant relevant experience)
  • Mentorship course or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Diploma/ Degree level study in a clinically relevant course i.e. HDU / Acutely ill Adult / elderly care course / CCU etc

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant level of experience as a Band 6 staff nurse in an acute setting
  • Experience of managing a team and can effectively function as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience working with Older People within an acute setting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to assess patients; develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care
  • Ability to support professional development and create a learning environment
  • Ability to safely administer medicines in accordance with NMC Guidelines for the administration of medicines (2002)cannulation
  • A level of nursing knowledge consistent with required post registration experience and specialist knowledge where appropriate

Desirable criteria

  • Computer literacy with electronic records experience (EPIC)
