Role Overview

As a Personal Social Development (PSD) Teacher for SEMH students, you will play a pivotal role in helping young learners navigate the complexities of their personal, social and emotional development. Your primary focus will be on delivering tailored lessons and activities that nurture students' emotional intelligence, resilience and self-regulation skills. You will be expected to work closely with other educators, support staff and external professionals to create a safe, inclusive and engaging environment for students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs and support staff to create and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of students.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging behavioural growth and resilience through supportive guidance and mentorship.
  • Ensure a structured, safe and inclusive environment where students feel confident to express themselves and make progress in both their academic and personal development.
  • Collaborate with parents and external agencies to provide holistic support to students and ensure consistency in approaches both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Track and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to both students and parents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities and school initiatives to stay updated on best practices and contribute to a culture of growth.

Requirements Of The SEMH PSD Teacher

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role supporting students with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural difficulties.
  • Experience working with SEMH students, specifically those requiring targeted support in Personal Social Development (PSD). Experience within special educational needs (SEN) settings is essential.
  • A full UK driving licence is required for this role as the position may involve travelling between schools or accessing community-based activities.
  • Proven ability to deliver effective PSD lessons that promote emotional and social development, with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by SEMH students.
  • A clear understanding of behavioural management strategies and trauma-informed practices, with experience in adapting your approach to the needs of individual students.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, providing both academic guidance and emotional support.
  • Experience working within an inclusive classroom environment and familiarity with creating and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • The role requires a full-time commitment and the successful candidate should be ready to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
