The Medicine Management technicians play an important role, complementing clinical pharmacist and other members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. The successful applicants will rotate around the different speciality wards at the Royal Derby Hospital, these will include Oncology, Medicine, T&O, Surgery, Admissions and the Rehabilitation wards at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital allowing the applicant to gain a wealth of experience and knowledge
Previous experience of working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting is preferred but not essential.
The Medicine Management Technicians will provide a ward based Medicine Management and Optimisation Service, including medicine reconciliation, patient counselling and ensuring the quality, safety and timely supply of discharge prescriptions.

Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Ensuring the quality, accuracy and safety of prescribing in exciting clinical areas.
- Support the MDT, including pharmacist, doctors and nursing staff.
- Obtaining detailed and accurate medication histories from multiple sources and reconciling with the inpatient prescription and communicating any discrepancies.
- Communicating detailed information to patients & carers about drug doses, indications, side effects and efficacy.
- Liaising widely (e.g. CCG or GP staff, patients, carers etc) to ensure the timely availability of patient medication.
- Reviewing inpatient and discharge prescriptions to ensure appropriate prescribing and availability of medicines.
- Assessing Patients own Drugs for suitability for use in the Trust.
- Promoting use of Trust and national clinical guidelines and optimising patient medication.
- Help support quality, safety and timeliness of discharge and to facilitate effective communication of medication around admissions and discharges.
- Provides a safe and efficient supply of pharmaceutical products to patients. This may involve dispensing and final checking (ACT) of drug products and compliance aids.
