Job Overview
The Assistant Practitioner will be part of the Paediatric Diabetes team and assist in the provision of the Nutrition and Dietetic service to Paediatric patients. This will involve supporting the diabetes team to coordinate insulin pump starts and facilitate education to children, young people and their families in accordance with the British Dietetic Association code of professional conduct for dietetic assistants.
This will include working on their own in the home, school, children’s centre or clinic environment with individuals or groups of children, their families and other health professionals.
They must be able to travel to undertake the duties of the post at various locations across the healthboard.
Main duties of the job
The paediatric diabetes team are a dynamic multidisciplinary team comprising paediatric dietitians, nurses, psychologists and paediatricians. The post holder will support the team in the management of children and young people with Type 1 diabetes and help to coordinate and facilitate education and diabetes care.
The post holder will be required to work with other health professionals and with schools and social services as required. They will receive training, guidance and supervision from a registered dietitian and the wider diabetes team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent
- Numeracy and literacy skills
- Catering, food hygiene and safety qualification
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge of type 1 diabetes
- Experience of working with children and young people

- Good IT skills
- Organisational skills
- Experience of audit
- Ability to use diabetes technology
