Job Overview
Mechanical Craftsperson - Royal Gwent Hospital
Exciting opportunities have arisen for experienced Mechanical Craftspersons based at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.
You will provide multi-skilled engineering expertise across various mechanical and electrical equipment and fabric, providing cross trade work to the service and perform engineering maintenance work including activities which are complex and/or non-routine.
These posts will be working days with a requirement to work shifts when the needs of the Health Board require.
Main duties of the job
Understand, receive and give technical instructions to other Maintenance workers, assistants and contractors.
Liaise with all levels of senior clinical and non-clinical staff at ward/department level regarding maintenance tasks enabling work tasks to be carried out with minimum disruption to patient support services (i.e. Heating, power, nurse call system, ventilation etc) and patient care.
Liaise appropriately with external Suppliers and Contractors, dealing with technical queries and information, signing contractors in and carrying out site induction as required.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completed an accredited Mechanical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills e.g. air conditioning
- Evidence of significant CPD
- JIB Registration

- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Willing to develop individual knowledge
- Motivation skills

- High level of knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical services/systems and working knowledge of other associated trades.
- Familiarity with approved guidance documents
- Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda
- General awareness of other engineering maintenance related statutory legislation

- Completion of a structured training programme
- Previous experience of working within the NHS
