Junior Cost Engineer

Job Description

As Junior Cost Engineer you will be responsible for providing cost management support to the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation work portfolio and will monitor, control, and forecast the costs during the Project lifecycle.

Please note potential candidates for this role must be able to obtain and retain CTC (Counter Terrorist Check) level security clearance to be considered for this position. (Minimum 3 years residence in UK).

Responsibilities

• Control, monitor, analyse and report cost related aspects for designated projects within a Portfolio.
• Performance Analysis– identify & understand variances against the baseline.
• Cost Reconciliation
• Monthly reporting including status reports & accountability meetings with stakeholders.
• Cost Forecasting
• Assist with Baseline Management and Change & Risk Management
• Assist in the development and use of Project Control Structures (CBS, OBS, WBS etc.)
• Close working relationship with the Planning Project team to maintain an aligned financial position with the project plan, playing a key role in an integrated Project Delivery team
  
  

Qualifications

Essential

• Previous experience of cost control together with the ability to administer transactional aspects in SAP, including order placement and accruals
• Some experience / understanding of Earned Value Analysis / Earned Value Management (EVM)
• High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills
• Exhibits awareness of the level of interaction required with the project team function to support the successful delivery of projects
  
  

Desirable

• Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills working in a team environment
• Relevant experience in Project Controls and/or Project Delivery, preferably in a highly regulated environment
• Excellent MS Office skills and well versed in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• HNC/HND, degree qualified or experience in a cost related discipline is desirable

Skills

Costain provides a project controls and commercial managed service to portfolios and programmes of work across EDF Energy’s eight UK nuclear power stations. As part of this work Costain will develop people capability in core project control skills and provide specialist support to EDFs Central Technical Organisation to improve project performance and deliver cost efficiencies.
