Indirect Tax Assistant

easyJet

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Luton
Contract type: Full time
It’s official – easyJet is one of the best places to work in the UK! We are among the winners of the annual Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the UK’s Top 50 Best Places to Work 2024. You can be a part of it too, our Finance and Procurement teams are detail-focused problem-solvers who handle billions worth of assets and keep us on track for further growth. You’ll play an essential role in maintaining the balance between ‘service’ and ‘cost’ that makes travelling with us both accessible and enjoyable.

We’re seeking an Indirect Tax Assistant to join our dynamic Tax team at easyJet, where you’ll play a vital role in supporting our growth across Europe.

In this position, you’ll be responsible for assisting with VAT returns across Europe and Air Passenger Duty (APD) filings. You’ll follow documented processes to prepare VAT returns across various European registrations, liaise with foreign tax advisors, and relay updates to the Indirect Tax Manager and the broader team. For those eager to expand, training on UK VAT will be provided for future progression. Clear and strong communication is key, as much of your work will involve managing email and post correspondence with advisors.

Additionally, you’ll work closely with various areas of the business, including revenue, commercial finance, and pricing teams. By building strong relationships with stakeholders and working alongside Accounts Payable, you’ll ensure tax controls are in place and that the VAT filing log is promptly updated. Familiarity with journals will be beneficial in this collaborative role.

Your responsibilities will include completing monthly European VAT returns, handling 67 returns annually, and managing Spanish SII monthly data submissions to the Spanish tax authority, where you’ll be the main point of contact for any queries. This is an exciting opportunity to join easyJet’s Tax team and grow alongside the business in a fast-evolving industry.

We asked our Indirect Tax Manager what it’s like to do this job at easyJet;

"At easyJet, there's plenty of scope for learning and advancing. Our team is fantastic, and we thrive in a fast-paced environment. We operate as a lean team, always mindful of passing savings on to our customers, which means we place great value on understanding our ethos and the ‘why’ behind what we do. The work here is dynamic and always evolving as we explore new opportunities. We’re very open to fresh ideas and approaches – these are not just encouraged but celebrated.

Joining easyJet means becoming part of a close-knit family environment. The work can be challenging but is immensely rewarding, with ample opportunities to develop skills and progress. It’s an exciting place to build a career, where you can make a real impact across the business and gain diverse experiences quickly in a supportive and caring company."

What You Need To Do The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled professional with proven experience in a dynamic environment, bringing excellent written, verbal, communication, and analytical skills to the team. Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

The ability to work effectively under pressure and to strict deadlines is crucial, as our lean team operates against government-imposed deadlines rather than internal ones, requiring exceptional time management and organisational skills. While knowledge of pan-European indirect taxes is preferable, it’s not essential; however, we value candidates who are degree-educated and currently working towards a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CTA, CIMA, or IIA. If you’re detail-oriented, adaptable, and ready to make an impact at easyJet, we’d love to hear from you!

LOCATION & HOURS OF WORK

This full-time role will be based in Luton and will be 40 hours per week. We support hybrid working and we spend 60% of our time a month in the office.
