The Masjid: E: Salaam Mosque is a large and busy Mosque and Islamic Centre, serving the Muslim community in Preston. This post is open to men only and is exempt under the Sex Discrimination Act 7(2)(d) and (e).

About The Role

The Mosque is seeking to recruit an Imam to join their religious services department, who will specialise in engaging with Muslim youth and wider society.

PMS is looking for a charismatic person who has both Islamic knowledge, sound communication and leadership skills to take the responsibilities of religious, community and educational affairs of PMS. The successful candidate will be responsible for devising and implementing systems and procedures for all the responsibilities described below. He, therefore, needs to be flexible in both managing the weekly hours and approaches in order to carry out the duties effectively and efficiently.

Any offer of employment will be conditional on the basis of satisfactory enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) clearance, references and a probationary period.

Key Responsibilities

You will perform the duties and functions that may be reasonably expected of someone in your position. In general, however, you shall perform the following:

• Lead the five times dally prayers in rotation with other lmam(s) including the Friday Prayer (both 1st and 2nd).
• Deliver Bayan before 1st / 2nd Jumma in Urdu/English and as appropriate.
• To deliver monthly Bayans for women in both Urdu/English, including additional programmed in Ramadan.
• To lead the Taraweeh Prayers in the main Masjid, and organize other Taraweeh Prayers.
• To teach in the Madrasah Taleemul Islam in its normal operational times.
• To attend meetings with external agencies on behalf of PMS, Masjid: E Salaam.
• To work with local schools, colleges and other organizations promoting Islam.
• To be responsible for conducting Nikah Ceremonies, funeral services of deceased and be available for ad:hoc requirements of the community.
• To initiate, organize and deliver programmes beneficial to both elders and youth including additional activities/programmes in Ramadan.
• To arrange and organise optional classes to both elders and youngsters in the Masjid, including working with reverts.
• To perform general duties of a lmam in co:operation with other Imams and Masjid committees in guidance with PMS, Masjid: E: Salaam acting committee.
• PMS, Masjid :E: Salaam expects all its Imams to work as a team, to collaborate and consult on all appropriate matters with colleagues and PMS, Masjid :E: Salaam committee.
• To perform other such duties as reasonably requested from time to time in line with the role of Imam.
  
  

About You

Essential Requirements:

• Education: Formal Islamic education from a recognised Islamic institution.
• Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, and Islamic history. Familiarity with the practices and teachings of the Barelvi, Hanafi, and Qadriya schools of thought. Ability to address modern societal issues within an Islamic framework.
• Language: Fluent in English and Arabic Language.
• Experience: Previous experience as an Imam or in a similar leadership role within a mosque or Islamic institution. 2 years +
• Skills: Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to teach, counsel, and engage with diverse age groups.
