What You Will Be Doing

To support our growth and maintain our high standards, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Technical Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team and lead our technical teams to drive operational success. Key Responsibilities
Project and Operational Management Leadership:
- Work closely with the SLT to define and direct the strategy for our Network Engineering, Network Ops, Software, Systems and Business Intelligence functions.
- Lead and motivate technical departments, ensuring effective execution of projects and operational excellence across the organisation.
- Work with the operational teams to ensure 100% uptime of our services 24/7/365, operating and maintaining it to provide uninterrupted availability.
- Lead on the implementation and analysis of metrics to identify key performance indicators that accurately reflect the overall performance of our services – promoting a culture of data-driven decision making.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure successful project outcomes, including budget management, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative culture, promoting cross-functional teamwork and knowledge sharing.
- Engage and collaborate with various stakeholders, including senior executives, department leaders, and external partners, to identify project requirements and priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external vendors, fostering partnerships to support successful project delivery.
- Facilitate communication channels and provide timely updates to stakeholders on project progress, issues, and resolutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the organisation identifying areas for optimisation and implementing process enhancements and automation where possible.
- Champion change management efforts, ensuring effective adoption of new processes, tools, and methodologies across the organisation.
- Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration and implementation of emerging project management practices and technologies.
- Embed and lead a culture of excellent data governance and privacy-by-design. This includes, ensuring Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) and relevant GDPR-related clauses are present in our third-party contracts and arrangements.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams. Capable of driving a project management culture and fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Project and Program Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or a hybrid approach. Ability to develop and implement project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align project activities with organisational goals and translate strategic objectives into actionable project plans. Capable of providing strategic direction to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in stakeholder management, including building and maintaining relationships with internal teams, senior leadership, and external vendors. Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
- Business Acumen: Strong business sense with the ability to understand the impact of projects on overall business performance. Skilled in managing budgets, resources, and risks to achieve successful project delivery.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex situations, identify solutions, and make sound decisions. Demonstrated ability to mitigate risks and resolve project issues effectively.
- Change Management: Proficiency in change management principles and practices. Ability to drive and manage change within the organisation, ensuring successful adoption of new processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Analytical and Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess project performance, monitor metrics, and provide data-driven insights. Familiarity with project management software/tools for planning, tracking, and reporting project progress. Strong understanding of IoT technologies, Internet Service Provider operations, and the telecommunications industry.
- Proven experience (at least 10 years) in a similar leadership role overseeing technical operations.
- Strong background in managing and optimising, network operations, software development, and project management.
- Excellent knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, software development lifecycle, and project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, foster a collaborative work environment, and drive operational excellence.
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing and delivering projects, programs, and initiatives on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
- Experience in managing stakeholders at various levels, including senior executives and external partners.
- Prior experience in a growth-oriented organisation or start-up environment is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks and decision-making processes.
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certification in project management, such as PMP or PRINCE2
- ITIL Certification
- An MBA
- Specialist project / programme management qualifications such as MSP, Scrum, SAFe
