We are looking for volunteers to assist with setting up and ensuring the smooth running of group sessions for children and young people who have experienced loss and bereavement.

In collaboration with the Family Support Service Counsellors, you will help deliver group sessions for these children and young people.

Session times are varied and will be discussed in more detail at interview. Some Saturdays and evenings are required.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting staff with practical arrangements and hosting duties for group sessions.
  • Actively listening to children with patience and compassion.
  • Attending and participating fully in supervision, team events and training as required.

Your skills and abilities:

  • A passion to work with children, good listening skills and the ability to engage with others.
  • May have some experience of working or supporting children and young people.
  • Awareness and knowledge of issues around the experience of bereavement.
  • The ability to respond to situations that emerge with appropriate referral on to members of the family support team as required.
  • Awareness of safeguarding issues and the need to keep up to date.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Understand empathy and can work sensitively with the subject matter at the hospice.
  • Willingness to undertake training and continual development of skills and abilities.
  • Promote children’s service activities

Additional Information:

  • Full Training and support will be provided.
  • Full Enhanced DBS will be carried out.

Am I eligible to volunteer?

We ask that our volunteers are:

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Live within an easy commute to the area.
  • Interested in volunteering for at least 6 months.

All appointments are at the discretion of the management team.
