Contract type: Full time
About Royal HaskoningDHV:
Royal HaskoningDHV has been connecting people for 140 years. Together, through our expertise and passion, we have helped contribute to a better society and improved people’s lives with work underpinned by our sustainable values and goals. We are an independent international engineering and project management consultancy leading the way in sustainable development and innovation.
Royal HaskoningDHV is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences. We recognise that embracing diversity unlocks innovation and creativity and fosters collaboration. We want our employees to reflect the diversity of our communities and the customers we serve.
About the Resilience Engineering team:
Within the Environment-Resilience-Renewables (E-R-R) group, there are around 30 engineers and technicians focusing on water’s edge projects. The team has a strong track record and many ongoing projects in the coastal and fluvial sector as well as drainage projects. We also work closely with other engineering teams within the company (such as Maritime, Highways, Infrastructure), which gives broader experience to our graduate engineers. Recent project highlights have been the award-winning Southsea Coastal Scheme ( Southsea Coastal Scheme | Royal HaskoningDHV ) and Northey Island Coastal Adaptation projects and Holme Sluice Fish Pass (largest in the UK). Projects are varied and range from flooding and erosion problems, habitat creation and amenity schemes through to port and private developments working for a variety of clients such as local authorities, contractors and private clients.
The team has the knowledge and experience to complete all stages of projects from project management, data gathering and interpretation; specification and supervision of site surveys; optioneering; outline design; detailed design; procurement; and construction support.
The role:
This position is for a Graduate Civil Engineer to work on projects and proposals primarily in coastal and fluvial engineering within the national and international market. We have an extensive portfolio of work, and you will be expected to provide relevant and appropriate assistance to Project Managers and other technical specialists. The multi-faceted role will involve significant technical and general contribution to activities such as site inspections, feasibility studies, designs, construction support, report-writing, liaison with external parties, digital tools usage/development, document management & BIM and sustainability & carbon.
A good understanding of the practice of engineering consultancy will be advantageous, as will a broad understanding of the key drivers and risks associated with our clients’ projects, and similar breath of awareness of a range of wider industry matters, such as environmental issues and solutions.
We require an enthusiastic, optimistic, conscientious, and talented person with good communication skills and technical ability. The candidate must be able to work in a team and, at times, independently. The role will require close working with members of the various similar teams across the UK as well as with staff across other Business Lines. They must contribute proactively to ensure consulting services are consistently delivered to the highest standards, meeting, and exceeding clients’ needs.
What we are looking for:
Ambitious. Exciting. Lively. Collaborative. Dynamic. That’s how our colleagues describe our company. Want to contribute to Enhancing Society with your expertise? Be part of an open network where you’re connected with the brightest and smartest people and technologies? Join us!
You can look forward to growing your career in a dynamic workplace with development opportunities and support on your career path – this includes mentoring and our graduate programme. We have flexible working models to ensure a balance of family and working life. Alongside this we also fully support successful applicants to a chartership level (incl. ICE and CIWEM).
Location:
You will ideally be based approx. 3 days per week or more in one of our main Resilience Engineering offices in Brighton, Leeds, Newcastle, Exeter, or Peterborough although we also have offices in London, Edinburgh, Manchester or Liverpool.
Please note that this position is for a September 2025 start
