THE ROLE

Our client are seeking a General Manager to bring accountability, rigour and discipline to the projects business. The role will be central to the effective daily management of the Livingston site, ensuring people are cared for, organisational structure and process are followed, enabling the business to deliver outstanding customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee all activities across the Livingston facility, including Projects, Production, Installation, Drawings and Commercial functions.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the projects and manufacturing teams.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Address employee questions and concerns and foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Support heads of departments with HR related responsibilities/questions.
  • Acting as the company’s lead for all project management related areas of the business.
  • Maintain an accurate account of the costs associated with each project, ensuring they are tracked through appropriate measurement systems.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and maintaining good relationships with the customer base.
  • Develop processes and systems to facilitate the effective and efficient running of the projects business.
  • Where necessary, contribute to sourcing and negotiating the price of materials, then maintaining an efficient route of supply.
  • Oversee project plans with clients, ensuring they are realistic and can be delivered on time and within expectations and budgetary constraints.
  • Oversight of all applications for payments to clients, and ensuring they are correctly raised to clients on the agreed timescales.
  • Attend and oversee the weekly project meetings to ensure effective project management.
  • Attend and oversee the weekly design meeting to ensure progress and movement through to the factory.
  • Drive accountability and good housekeeping in the employed installation team and oversee and monitor subcontract install resource.
  • Utilise client relationships to track payments associated with projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, Health & Safety requirements.
  • Attend client meetings, on site where required, upholding the discipline of regular client and/or project meetings to deliver for the client effectively.
  • Make recommendations around team training and development.
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of the markets served, staying informed on client activities, market dynamics and industry trends.

Experience & Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction and manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Strong understanding of construction and manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment, particularly in glass and aluminium.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects and teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen and experience with budget management.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based (Livingston) with occasional site visits.
  • May require travel to various project locations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Travel across the UK as required
