Main Responsibility
Clinical Care:
- Conduct developmental paediatric clinics, including SEND assessments, and provide multidisciplinary assessments and follow-ups.
- Participate in safeguarding activities, including medical assessments for children referred by police or social care, and contribute to multi-agency discussions, strategy meetings, and supervision.
- Perform medical examinations for Looked After Children and complete all related documentation promptly.
- Engage in personal development and contribute to the training, supervision, and development of colleagues.
- Participate in departmental audits, clinical governance, teaching, and service development.
- Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to meet college or professional body requirements, with appropriate support and facilities provided.
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of organisational objectives, service plans, and developments.
- Comply with infection prevention, risk management, and confidentiality policies while observing all statutory and professional obligations.
- Support the department’s administrative and managerial functions, including maintaining health and safety for yourself and others.
- Direct Clinical Care (DCC): Includes clinical activities, safeguarding assessments, supervision, and administration.
- Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): Includes CPD, audits, teaching, governance, and service development.
- Accountable to the Director of Developmental Paediatrics, with annual job planning and appraisal.
- Supported by dedicated administrative staff with a named point of contact.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- UK recognised medical degree (MBChB, MBBS)
- Full GMC Registration
- Work permit (if required)
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- On the Specialist Register for Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT date
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Community Paediatrics
- Evidence of Level 3 training and experience in Safeguarding Children
- CCT in Community Child Health
- Completion of formal training in Standardised Autism Assessments (such as ADOS, ADI-R, 3di) and experience in multidisciplinary assessments.
- Training in a standardised formal developmental assessment for children
- Experience in the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD
- Experience of Child Protection assessments, Initial Health Assessments for Looked After Children, advice to the LA regarding Special Educational Needs
